Combined Play Format with Capitol LL for 2020

Dear Midway Parents,

After much deliberation and in consultation with the District Administration for Little League District 2, the Midway Little League Board of Directors has voted to enter into a partnership for a Combined Play format with Capitol Little League for the 2020 season.

Combined Play has been recommended by District 2 over the past several seasons for little leagues with smaller participation numbers such as our league. Combined play is a partnership between local little leagues where players from both leagues are mixed together on the same teams. The goal of this format is to increase the number of players in each division with the result being better player development through increased competition.

Midway has partnered with Capitol Little League at the Junior and Senior divisions over the last few years under the Combined Play format. In 2020, we will extend that partnership to the Major and Minor A divisions.

This is not a decision that we took lightly, but we feel this would be in the best interest of our players. We have noticed a decrease in the number players and also in the quality of play over the past decade. Therefore, we feel that the children in our community will benefit from the increased number of players that come with the implementation of the Combined Play format.

Some Key points

- The leagues will stay independent of one another.

- Combined Play will be implemented for the Minor A and Major divisions.

- Combined Play will be for both the regular season and All-Star tournaments.

- Players will remain in their current divisions until drafted up to a new division.

- Combined player evaluations and drafts will be held in late February and/or early March.

- Games will be played at both Midway and Capitol facilities.

We understand that there will be some questions regarding this partnership as we get closer to the season. We invite you all please ask any questions during in person sign-ups.

We hope you all have a wonderful Holiday Season and hope to see everyone in the spring of 2020.

Sincerely,

Jack Fallon, President
